Makerere University has capacity for next-generation sequencing on the MiSeq Illumina platform. The platform has capacity for pair-end sequencing with a read length of 2X300bp, an output of 15Gb and 25 million reads. It is capable of whole genome sequencing, 16s metagenomics sequencing, 18S/ITS metagenomics sequencing, and de novo genome assemblies of a range of wide range of species. These allow maximum capacity to perform microbiome, Virome and mycobiome sequencing using the MiSeq placed in the Genomics and Molecular Biology facilities at Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
